Week 14
We’ve had another busy week in Year 3 as it’s been our assessment week and we’ve been working really hard on our two Maths papers and our English tasks. However, we had a welcome break on Wednesday when we visited Santa in his Grotto to tell him what we would like for Christmas. Afterwards, the whole school celebrated with a delicious Christmas lunch served by the staff!
For the rest of the week, we’ve been doing our RE, Science and Geography.
In RE we used our Oracy skills to discuss the importance of Isaiah’s prophecy and his foretelling of the birth of the Messiah. We listened to the music and lyrics of the hymn ‘O Come, O Come Immanuel’ and discussed the meaning of each verse before choosing our favourite. We focused on the words of our chosen verse and then recorded in words and pictures how we felt about it.
In Science we discussed we investigated how different things move on surfaces. We used forces meters and recorded in newtons the force required to move an object over a particular surface. We found that it was the tarmac surface that required the least amount of force to move our object making it an ideal road surface whereas grass required the largest force making it unsuitable for a road surface.
In Geography we revised the two types of volcano – shield and composite – and discussed the negative and positive effects of living near a volcano. In addition, we’ve discovered what earthquakes are and their negative impact on communities as well as designing our own earthquake-proof building.
Congratulations to our Stars of the week and to our Learner too.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you for lots of Christmas activities during our final week of the Autumn term.
Best wishes
