Week 3

It’s been another busy week in Year 5 and it’s lovely to see how well everyone is doing.

We’re enjoying our class English text, ‘The Misadventures of Frederick’ by Ben Manley, and I’m really pleased at how we use our Oracy skills to read expressively as well as to discuss the book’s themes. This week we’ve been writing both letters and speeches using formal language including modal verbs and adverbs of possibility.

In Maths, we’ve continued to develop our understanding of the formal written method for short division. We’ve practised division questions that have both fraction and decimal remainders in their answers. Next week we’ll be working on answering division word problems before moving onto fractions.

In RE, we’ve been finding out about another world religion. This week we focused  on Hinduism and investigated the importance of the god Brahman to Hindus as well as why it is important that Hindus take part in pilgrimages. In History, we’ve been comparing the Maya style of house to those built in Britain at the same time by the Anglo Saxons. We found similarities as well as differences and then had to decide which we preferred. Finally, in our final Science lesson on Forces, we investigated what was the smallest weight that could lift an object using a lever. In our computing lessons this term we are learning how to use spreadsheets and this week we’ve created sheets to help us learn our times tables.

Many congratulations to our Stars and writer of the Week. Have a lovely weekend!

Best wishes

Mrs Howard
