Spring 1, Week 1, Friday 9th January 2026

Welcome back and Happy New Year.  I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas break.  This has been a slightly shorter week as we had our Inset day on Monday but Year 6 have still been working hard.  In whole class reading, we have reviewed some parts of the reading assessments that the class took before Christmas. We've also enjoyed some great oracy when looking at our current writing inspiration - Wisp - as we looked at the author's use of personification.

We've begun our new RE topic - Galilee to Jerusalem - by looking at the beginning of John's Gospel and how he introduces Jesus as the Word Made Flesh as well as other ways he mentions Jesus throughout his Gospel - as a healer, a miracle worker, the Resurrection and the Life.  The children also created their own artwork based on the Word Made Flesh, reflecting their own interpretations and writing a Visio Divina reflection to accompany their illustrations.

In history, we began looking at the origins of World War II, putting the events leading up to it onto a timeline and discussing the reasons for this second world war when everyone had hoped that nothing like World War I could ever occur again.
