WEEK 1 - 09|01|2026

Happy New Year!

WOW! What a busy first week back it has been!

This week in English, we began our new unit, Rapunzel. We read the traditional fairytale, explored key features of the text, wrote statement sentences about the wicked witch, and retold the story. As a class, we also created a story map to help us sequence the events.

In Maths, we continued using the ‘Think 10’ strategy to practise addition and subtraction. The children worked hard to apply this method, and we will be moving on to a new topic next week.

In History, we started our new topic, How Did We Learn to Fly? The children created comic strips about the life of the Wright brothers and how they built the first successful aeroplane, which flew for just 12 seconds! We also compared early planes to modern aircraft and discussed how much they have changed over time.

In Science, we carried out an exciting experiment investigating how germs spread. We used three pieces of bread: one touched with tongs (our control), one touched with clean hands, and one touched with dirty hands. The bread has been placed in sealed bags, and we will observe it over the coming week. Our prediction is that the bread touched with dirty hands will grow the most bacteria.

In RE, we began our new topic from Galilee to Jerusalem. We retold the story of the Magi visiting Jesus, discussed how the Wise Men may have felt, and explored the significance of the gifts they brought. The children reflected on what gifts they would bring to Jesus. We then looked at artistic expressions of Jesus' baptism, asking wondering questions about how Jesus may have felt.

This led into our class reflection, where we made promises to ourselves and to God about what we would like to work towards this year. We wrote these on rainbows, linking to the covenant God made with Noah.

Finally, a special mention to our Stars and Learner of the Week:

✨ Stars of the Week: Tabi-Mercy and Zeynep, for their outstanding participation, resilience, and hard work this week.
✏️ Learner of the Week: Sofia, for her beautiful handwriting and excellent retelling of the story of the Magi.

Thank you for your continued support. We wish you a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Kind regards,
Miss Perone & Mrs Nicolini
