WEEK 2 - 16|01|2026

Firstly, I’d like to say hello — my name is Miss Kendrick, and your children have welcomed me into their class so beautifully. We’ve had a truly wonderful week together, and I already feel very lucky to be working with them!

This week in English, we continued our unit on Rapunzel. We explored a different version of the story and used expanded noun phrases to describe Rapunzel in more detail. The children also practised writing in the past tense, and worked on using statements, questions, commands and exclamations, as well as correctly using commas in a list. They applied all these skills brilliantly in their writing!

In Maths, we began a new unit on part–whole models. The children started by using Cuisenaire rods to build bar models, helping them visualise how numbers can be partitioned. We then progressed to cherry models, where they applied this understanding to identify parts and wholes, before exploring fact families to show the different number sentences that link the same three numbers.

In History, we continued our topic “How Did We Learn to Fly?” The children learned about Orville Wright and discussed how he might have felt during his very first flight—excited, nervous, and determined. They then worked in groups to role‑play the experience of taking flight, imagining the sights, sounds and emotions of this historic moment.

In Science, we began exploring materials and their properties, learning useful vocabulary such as shinysofttransparent, and more to help us describe different objects. The children then designed and created their own Material Monsters, each one made from the monster’s favourite material—plastic, paper, wood or metal. To finish, we went on a classroom material hunt, searching for objects made from the same materials our monsters love to munch! The children had great fun investigating, identifying, and justifying their choices using their new scientific vocabulary.

In RE, we continued our topic “Galilee to Jerusalem.” The children sequenced and retold the story of Jesus’ baptism, drawing on key Scripture to support their discussions. They explored the significance of this moment in Jesus’ life and reflected on what it reveals about his mission and identity.

Finally, a special mention to our Stars and Learner of the Week:

✨ Stars of the Week: Jason and Mattyas, for their fantastic contributions, hard work and positive attitudes!
✏️ Learner of the Week: Favour, for her incredible hard work in all lessons this week!

Thank you for your continued support. We wish you a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Kind regards,
Miss Kendrick & Mrs Nicolini
