WEEK 4 - 30|01|2026
It’s been a lovely third week working with Year 2!
The children have continued to impress me with their kindness, enthusiasm and fantastic effort in every lesson. We’ve had a wonderfully busy week filled with creativity, curiosity and brilliant learning across the curriculum.
In English, the class have been working hard on drafting their own versions of Rapunzel. They explored the story structure, planned their ideas, and began writing their opening sections using interesting vocabulary, conjunctions and descriptive detail. We can’t wait to see how their stories develop next week!
In Maths, we started our new topic on Money. The children learned to recognise different coins and notes and began comparing their values. They practised making amounts in different ways and enjoyed solving money problems using their place value knowledge. They showed great resilience as they explored this new concept.
In History, the children stepped into the shoes of Amelia Earhart as part of our topic, How did we learn to fly? They wrote their own diary entries, imagining what it might have felt like to be a brave aviator embarking on an exciting journey. The children used emotion, detail and time words to bring their writing to life.
In Art, Year 2 have been learning about primary and secondary colours. The children watched how the colours mixed and blended to create new shades. They also explored different textures by using a range of tools such as brushes, sponges and even forks to recreate soft, bumpy and spiky effects in their artwork.
In RE, the children learned about some of Jesus’ miracles and what they teach us about His power and compassion. They also explored the meaning of sin and discussed how Christians believe that making good choices helps us to live in the way God wants. The children approached these big ideas thoughtfully and respectfully.
