Week 5
We’ve had a busy week celebrating International Week at St Joseph’s. This year each class chose a Spanish-speaking country to explore and we decided to find out all we could about the South American country, Peru. We discovered that it’s a fascinating country made up of three very different parts: a coastal area in the west bordering the Pacific Ocean, a mountainous area in the middle called the Andes and then an eastern part made up of the Amazon Rainforest. We researched and gathered facts about its geography, famous landmarks, food, dress, plant and animal life. We found out that Peru is famous for its spectacled bears as well as the fictional Paddington Bear. There’s a very large statue of Paddington in Peru’s capital, Lima, as well. Each class shared facts about their countries in a special assembly today.
As well as finding out all we can about Peru this week, we’ve been planning our guides to surviving on a deserted island and in Maths we’ve been investigating how to find the area of regular and irregular shapes. In Art we’ve been looking at the architectural work of Zaha Hadid and Friedensreich Hundertwasser and have designed our own buildings and in PE we’ve been practising our forehand and backhand strokes.
Well done to our writer and Stars of the Week too. I hope you all enjoy your half-term break too.
Best wishes
Mrs Howard
