Week 5
It was another busy week for Year 3. Today we celebrated Mass in church for St Francis of Assisi’s Feast Day tomorrow. The readers from Years 3 to 6 ready clearly and the choir were in fine voice making it a very lovely Mass.
In Maths, we’ve finished our revision of adding tens and hundreds to given numbers and have started counting on and back in 1s,10s and 100s from different points through tasks and games.
As part of Poetry Week, we had a visit from the poet Neal Zetter on Tuesday. He spent the day with different classes helping us recite a selection of his poems with actions. He talked about voice projection and delivery which really helped us. In the afternoon the whole school came together for a Poetry Slam where two groups from each Year group performed their poems in front of the judges. We were delighted when Year 3 came second overall!
In RE, we’ve discussed what makes us special and how God made us in his image. We drew portraits of ourselves and labelled them with qualities which make us unique and in the likeness of God. We used our Oracy skills to discuss how we might use these qualities to help and support others.
Finally, In History, we’ve continued our investigation into the Stone Age by examining photos from a settlement called Skara Brae which is a Scottish seaside settlement built over 5,000 years ago. We learnt that, although most people living in Britain at that time built wooden homes, those living on Orkney at Skara Brae built stone villages because there were hardly any trees on the island.
Congratulations to our Stars and Learner of the week. There’s plenty of time throughout the term for everyone to be chosen so keep doing your best.
Have a super weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week in class.
Best wishes
