Week 6
Welcome back to our final half-term in Year 5! This week we’ve been busy learning about democracy in ancient Greece and comparing it with the style of democracy we have now in modern Britain as well as learning about Greek gods and goddesses.
In English we’re writing our survival guides about how to cope living on a deserted island and our guides will include sub-headings on building shelters, rafts and what type of foods can be found and eaten on our islands. In Maths we’re learning about area and how to solve word problems relating to the unit.
In Science yesterday we investigated how to make glue by mixing different substances (sugar, salt, cornflour, baking powder and flour) with water and then trying out our inventions by sticking paper and card together so see how successful we were. We also discovered that ‘post-its’ were made by Spencer Silver in the 1970s by accident when he was trying to produce a very strong glue to be used in the making of planes. It made us imagine what we could achieve with our inventions too!
Many congratulations to our Writer and Stars of the Week. Have a good week-end!
Best wishes
Mrs Howard
