Week 7

Welcome back to Spring 2!  We’ve had a lovely and very busy first week back after half-term!

It’s been D&T week and we’ve been busy designing and creating Ancient Egyptian collars. We learnt that Pharaohs wore collars, called usekhs or weseks, as personal decoration.  The collar lay around and over the neck and shoulders and were very ornate, often made of gold and inlaid with jewels.  Consequently, they were very heavy. Pharaohs gave collars made of papyrus to members of their court as well.  We made templates to help us cut out our collar designs as well as applique templates to help us embellish our collars. We’ve learnt how to do running and cross stitch as well to help attach the applique and make our collars look very good.  In fact, the collars were so good that it was hard to choose a learner and stars of the week. Therefore, it was decided that the whole class should be made stars of the week for their efforts as well as all being called learners of the week.  They learnt a great deal about how to thread needles, tie a knot in the thread and then use both running and cross-stitch. The class were also lucky enough to have parents free to come into school and help support them.

In Maths we’ve been learning about perpendicular and parallel lines and their differences as well as practising our x4 tables.

In English, we’ve used Georgina Steven’s book, ‘Stella and the seagull’, to help us to use rhetorical questions and imperative verbs effectively when writing persuasive posters for a beach clean-up.

Many congratulations to Year 3 for all their creative ideas and for designing and making some lovely Egyptian collars. Enjoy your weekend!

Best wishes
