CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY WEEK
Black History Month 2024
This year the national theme for Black History month is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’.
To fully embrace the theme of ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ we explored the experiences and contributions of people from communities across the UK. We celebrated the rich contribution of the black community to the culture, society and economy of the UK.
This week our key figures were focused on Floella Benjamin, Henry Box Brown, Laurie Cunningham, Septimius Severus, Dennis Morris and Eunice Olumide , John Blanke and Walter Tull. Throughout the week we explored different people and our sessions in class adn we learnt a whole range of different aspects to their lives, whether it is looking at identity and culture, community and responsibilities, diversity and challenging prejudice or career and aspirations. We are really looking forward to celebrating Black excellence in all its forms—whether in the arts, sciences, politics, or everyday life.
We had a special assembly on Friday to explain what we have learnt about this week, we also created a whole school display which highlights the key figures.
