At St Joseph's Waltham Cross, we recently had the pleasure of hosting a truly fantastic week in honour of British Science Week. This annual celebration provided an excellent opportunity for our students to dive deeper into the theme of 'Change and Adapt', with each year group exploring different facets of this intriguing concept.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) children delighted in 'Precious Planets', where they continued to exploration of the world around them with habitats, materials and much more! Year 1 became 'Fairy Fanatics', sparking their imagination and creativity. Moving up the school, Year 2 focused on 'Animal Adaptation', learning about how various species adjust to their environments. Year 3 engaged in 'Silly Science', which included a variety of fun experiments with putty - very messy but alot of fun, while Year 4's 'Slinky Science' encouraged a hands-on approach to understanding the laws of physics. Year 5 embarked on 'Packets for the Planet', investigating ways to preserve food, notably crisps, by testing different types of packaging. Finally, Year 6 took on the challenge of 'Incredible Inventions', by learning from inventions that were discovered by mistakes. 

We concluded the week with our first Science Fair, where each year group showcased their learning and investigations. The atmosphere was electric as families came together to celebrate the wonders of science. The displays were truly magical, illustrating the incredible depth of learning that had taken place throughout the week.

Feedback from parents and students was overwhelmingly positive.

"I was really impressed with the Science Fair which took place today after school at St Joseph’s. It was evident that a lot of care and thought had been put into the whole event and also keeping to the theme of “Change and Apart”. There was a great variety of very interesting displays of what the children had been preparing during the week from actual experiments and outcomes to interactive activities for the children and parents to get involved with. The pupils were really informative and enthusiastic when manning their stands. Every child was more than enthusiastic to answer questions about their particular displays from Crystal Growing to Making Putty. 

Lovely as well to see pupils welcoming the parents on the door 😊

Overall, a really positive experience for both children and parents to get involved in and so nice to see the school come together to make it an extremely fun and interesting event.
