Spanish Day 2025
Spanish day
Buenos Dias! This week we celebrated our Spanish National Day at St Joseph’s. The children came to school in the morning wearing a combination of Spanish colours: red and yellow. In Spain it’s a day of big parades and celebrations to commemorate the date in 1492 when Christopher Columbus, or Cristobal Colon, as he is known in Spain, arrived in the Americas in the hope of finding a route to the East Indies and Asia.
Last year we researched the life of Christopher Columbus, explored the country and learnt a famous dance called the Flamenco. This year we have celebrated the work of Spanish-speaking artists. Each class chose a different artist, researched their lives and then produced a piece of art in the style of their chosen artist. It was great fun and really enjoyable to see such a range of artwork. We have very talented children here at St Joseph’s!
