WEEK 6 - 17|10|2025
This week has been Art Week!
We have explored lots of different techniques, textures and materials. We have looked at different artwork from Käthe Kollwitz and discussed how she creates different tones by shading sections darker and lighter. We did some rubbing on different textures. We went outside and used the bricks, trees, leaves and playground to create different textures, and then we made a composition of our different rubbings. We practised our shading, remembering the four rules. We then began to sketch out and refine a drawing, looking for the parts that needed to be shaded darker or lighter, and looking for shapes. This all led up to our final piece, drawing and refining a teddy!
In English, we have finished our unit ‘How to Make Friends with a Ghost'. The children wrote some fantastic
instructions for the Reception children to inform them on how to be good friends.
We have also started our new unit of poetry. The children looked at three different types of poems: Sugarcake Bubble, which rhymes; Cats, which lists where cats sleep; and Balloon, which is in the shape of a balloon. The children, in groups, discussed their favourite poem and had time to learn and perform it, using actions and expression.
In Maths, we learnt about 2-digit numbers and their properties. We have also been exploring value using different manipulatives, such as base-10, money, and number cards.
We also started a new learning step, where we are looking at identifying place value using bead strings and base-10. We have been counting on and back, looking at how the ones get smaller or bigger, using a 100-square grid.
In RE, we continued to look at Psalms, and we created our own Psalms. We know Psalms are special because they tell us how much God loves us. We created our own Psalm through artwork.
In Science, we have been investigating our heart rate and how to stay healthy. We know we need to have a good diet, exercise, wash our hands and bodies, and get plenty of rest. We carried out an investigation to see which sports get our bodies working the hardest. We know this because our hearts begin to beat faster. We did different exercises, like running and skipping, and then we measured our heart rate.
Finally, a special mention to our Stars and Learner of the Week!
✨ Stars of the Week: Jason and Isaiah for their outstanding behaviour and kindness this week.
✏️ Learner of the Week: Isaac, for his absolutely fantastic handwriting!
